The Purpose of Pupil Premium
The pupil premium is additional funding given to publicly funded schools in England to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils and close the gap between them and their peers Pupil Premium funding is allocated to schools on the basis of the number of pupils who:
- Are currently or have been eligible for free school meals (FSM) in the last 6 years (Ever6) Funded a £935 per eligible pupil
- LAC are funded at £1200 and those that have been looked after continuously for more than six months are funded at £1900.
- Children of service personnel, funded at £300 per eligible pupil
The aim of the pupil premium is to close attainment gaps between pupils from deprived backgrounds and their more affluent peers that persist through all stages of education. This has been identified for the following reasons:- The highest early achievers from deprived backgrounds are overtaken by lower achieving children from advantaged backgrounds by age seven. A pupil from a non-‐deprived background is more than twice as likely to go on to study at university as their deprived peer.
In most cases the Pupil Premium is allocated to schools and is clearly identifiable. It is for the school to decide how the Pupil Premium is spent. However, schools will be held accountable for how they have used the additional funding to support pupils from low-income families. Part of this accountability is a requirement for schools to publish information about the strategy and expenditure of pupil premium on their website. New measures will also be included in the performance tables that will capture the achievement of the pupils covered by the Pupil Premium.
The provision for Pupil Premium is tracked and scrutinised through a variety of channels:
- Whole School Data Tracking and Assessment Systems
- Through the 'Blue Hills' software package (SEN)
- In Senior Management meetings
- Through the Governor's Pupil Welfare Committee.
- There is an allocated member of the governing body linked to Pupil Premium
- Annual Pupil Premium review process
The Pupil Premium Grant expenditure has included (Please see attached document for more information):
- Literacy and Numeracy Support
- Booster classes for KS3 and KS4
- TA Support
- Access to Specialist Materials
- Musical equipment and peripatetic lessons
- Support for accessing extra curricular trips and cultural visits
- Counselling Services (now extended from 2 days to 4 days)
- Supporting pupils with uniform and equipment
- Revision Guides for Y.11 GCSE pupils
- Intensive Study Programmes at KS4
Catch-up Pupil Premium spending in 2015/16 has included:
- Literacy and Numeracy support at KS3

We compare the performance of pupils eligible for Pupil Premium Funding against the performance of those who are not. This is based on those achieving expected progress in English and Mathematics.
We also measure the impact of Pupil Premium in the following ways:
- Numbers achieving the 'Ebacc'
- Progress 8 Score average for Pupil Premium pupils
- Attainment 8 Score average for Pupil Premium pupils
Special Educational Needs and Disability
To ensure that all pupils receive their entitlement to a first class education our school recognises that additional provision of support and guidance may be required to further enable some pupils who have particular needs. Our Special Educational Needs Policy is designed to precisely identify and match specific individual needs to appropriate help and support.
