Laing O'Rourke Spot Talent in DEC Students
Three students from St Ambrose Barlow Sixth Form College are the very first to be offered prestigious paid work experience placements at construction company Laing O’Rourke.
Bobby, Shania and Joe underwent a rigorous selection process to and have been offered placements which means that from January they will be official Laing O’Rourke employees for one day a week!
They will be working across a variety of Laing O'Rourke's most prestigious Manchester-based projects during their placement. Their projects will link in with the modules they are studying at DEC and their industry insight will benefit all students on the course as they will be able to report back to their fellow students on the work they have been doing. Taking part in these paid work placements will not only give them vital experience that will further their future career, it will also give them a foot in the door as the aim of the project is to identify individuals at an early stage who will be able to progress through the ranks, gain sponsorship through University, and eventually become the key players and future leaders in the business.
Subject Leader for Design, Engineer, Construct, Daniel McDonagh, said: "I am extremely proud of the students. The quality of their work over the last few years and the enthusiasm and passion they have displayed for the built environment has put them in a unique position. I must thank Laing O'Rourke for the investment they have made in our students and I am sure that these young people will justify this decision over the coming months, and years."
Jocelyne Underwood, Sustainability Manager at Laing O’Rourke said: “We have been impressed by Bobby, Joe’s and Shania’s commitment to the Design, Engineer Construct! programme and the knowledge they have gained about the built environment through their studies. We are pleased to welcome them into the business and see this as a great way of attracting future talent into key roles at Laing O’Rourke”
