St Ambrose Barlow College Students Enjoy Placements at Top Hotel
Professional cookery students at St Ambrose Barlow Sixth Form College are enjoying work placements at a top hotel as part of their course.
Once a week instead of attending classes at college, the students have been working at the prestigious Worsley Park, A Marriott Hotel & Country Club, picking up practical skills and tricks of the trade from the professionals.
The students will get to try their hand at different aspects of the hospitality industry as they rotate between placements on the bar, in the restaurant and in the kitchen.
Marc McCrone, teacher of Professional Cookery at St Ambrose Barlow College said: “This is a great opportunity for the students, giving them the chance to pick up skills whilst working with and watching the experienced chefs and other members of staff. It is a fantastic way for our learners to get a real taste of working life, and an essential part of their course, with a possibility of future employment.”
Bernard Walkure, Director of Operations at the Marriott said: “We are delighted to take part in this rewarding program and host these wonderful students.”
Peter Nicholson, Cluster Director of Human Resources added: “It is joint programmes with educational establishments such as these that support the training needs of young people by providing a hotel wide experience for the students, after which they can make an informed decision as to the appropriate career path they wish to embark on.”
