St Ambrose Barlow Sixth Form Restaurant Hosts Asian Cuisine Nights
Sixth Form Catering and Hospitality students at St Ambrose Barlow Sixth Form have opened up their onsite restaurant ‘The Dining Room at Barlows’ for a series of Asian Cuisine nights.
The evenings allow the students to showcase the dishes they have learnt to prepare as part of their module on Asian Cookery. Student Deklan Cusick was the chef on the opening night, ably assisted in managing the restaurant and waiting on duties by fellow students Danny Moore and Josh Flynn, and Year 10 pupils from St Ambrose Barlow High School. On arrival diners were presented with a selection of poppadoms and accompaniments, before being treated to a sumptuous buffet of Chicken Palak, Vegetable Biryani, Gado Gado, Thai Red Pork Curry, Nasi Goring and Spiced Chicken Wings with lime leaves. Desert was Thai Pandan Caramel. Josh Flynn was Head Chef on the second evening and Danny took his turn on the third night.
Course leader Marc McCrone said: “The boys worked extremely hard to produce restaurant standard food in a real restaurant setting. These nights allow them to put into the action the skills they learn on the course and I was impressed with their professionalism.”
One guest said: “An excellent evening! Compliments to the chef and all staff – I will definitely be coming back!” Another added: “The food was well presented and delicious and the waiters were very polite and professional. Perfect atmosphere and experience.”
The nights provide vital restaurant experience and allow students to get used to the pressure of a service kitchen.
