Visit from Minister of State for Apprenticeships and Skills
To celebrate National Apprenticeship week St Ambrose Barlow Sixth Form were lucky enough to have a visit from Anne Milton, Minister of State for Apprenticeships and Skills.
Anne observed a #10K Talk by a recent Brother UK Apprentice Gemmer Crozier. The talk from Gemmer was inspiring and she explained to pupils what they could expect should they wish to take an apprenticeship either at Level 3 or 4. She also talked about Degree apprenticeship options that are available to young people, and about employability skills, her journey through the whole programme and gave them a personal insight into her life and background.
As part of National Apprenticeship week, the #10k Talks movement encouraged schools and colleges across the country to invite passionate current and former apprentices to talk to their students to share their own success stories with the next generation of talent.
Following Gemmer’s talk a number of students had a question and answer session with Anne on apprenticeships and future career paths. This was an excellent session which covered many apprenticeship areas from creative industries and engineering to computer science and even neurobiology and medicine.
Along with Anne there were a number of individuals from the education, government and council sectors who also took part in the question and answer session.
