Oracy

Oracy is taught in year seven via the English specialists. The course has two clear foci:

• Improving functional classroom talk: learning about how to use discussion within the classroom for better learning

• Public Speaking skills: improving the presentation skills of all

 

During lesson students will be taught protocols that help students to activate their talk for learning in the classroom. The program culminates in our EMBRACE week where every single year 7 gives a speech on a topic that they are passionate about.

Dramacy is taught in year eight via the English specialists. The course has two clear foci:

​

• Improving functional classroom talk: learning about how to use discussion within the classroom for better learning with a particular focus on debate

• Drama Skills: creatively engaging with texts and looking at how the drama form works

 

During lesson students will be taught protocols that help students to activate their talk for learning in the classroom as well as how theatre works as an art form. The program culminates in our Debate challenge week where every single year 8 will be involved in an inter-form debating competition.
