The drama department has one specialist member of staff, who leads the subject area, Mrs Tulloch. The department has excellent facilities with a purpose built space and full use of lighting and sound both within lessons and for productions..

Drama is both a process and a product, which can offer an enriching and life affirming experience to students. Within the drama department at St Ambrose, students are asked to explore issues such as dictatorship, loss and mental illness through both script and improvisation work, whilst developing understanding of the art of the actor’s performance and the possible technical enhancements such as lighting and sound. Above all, students are given the space to explore, evaluate and reflect the significance of their work; how it impacts on their sense of self, the world around them and their faith.

GCSE Drama

Drama is offered at GCSE (Edexcel) as a single option for years 9, 10 & 11 and is taught by Mrs Tulloch. The course gives students the opportunity to explore issues through devising, develop understanding of two substantial play texts, evaluation of professional work we go to see on trips, devising an original productions for examination as well as a choice of monologues, duologues and group scenes. There is one piece of written coursework to complete, one written exam and two assessed practical exams. Students particularly enjoy the rigour of creating a production for examination. Students are required to rehearse for one hour after school each week.
