Art
Intent Statement

From Key Stage 3 pupils explore their creativity and imagination. We embed development of practical and critical skills and extend their knowledge and experience of a variety of materials, processes and practices. Pupils engage confidently with Art, Craft and Design in the contemporary world and from different times and cultures. Our aim is to instil an appreciation for the Arts amongst all our young people so that they continue to enjoy cultural experiences and value the impact creativity can have on all of us. They become more independent in using the visual language to communicate their own ideas, feelings and meanings.

The structure and language of KS3 prepares pupils for GCSE. Pupils are provided with the opportunity to create artworks through the exploration and manipulation of multiple techniques and processes informed by a developing understanding of the work of artists from a variety of styles and traditions. The bespoke curriculum allows pupils to work to their specialism and preferred working style. Interventions and support are specific and targeted. Our links with a wide variety of creative industries and practitioners gives pupils opportunities to work with these professionals to develop their portfolios further. Trips, workshops and visits further extend learning opportunities and experiences to our pupils.
